Puerto Rican Subriel Matías won the WBC Super Lightweight title, defeating Dominican Alberto “Avispa” Puello by majority decision this Saturday in one of the main bouts of the “Sheeraz vs. Berlanga” card held at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
Puello boxed very well and precisely for 12 rounds, showing good rhythm and movement against more aggressive Matías, who was rewarded by the judges for his impetus and insistence bt punishing his opponent, especially at the outset.
Aggression won out over counter punching. Judges Ron McNair and Tony Paolillo scored identical cards of 115-113, while Frank Lombardi saw the actions as a 114-114 draw.
